Important Paintings and Contemporary Art

ART+OBJECT?s Important Paintings and Contemporary Art auctions are held three times annually. The April and August auctions have together resulted in total art sales of over $3.3 million, the highest combined sale total of any New Zealand auction house in the premier art category. The market for the finest quality New Zealand paintings, sculpture and photographs continues to grow and the November auction will be eagerly anticipated by consignors, collectors, museums and market commentators. This current catalogue is among the freshest and most interesting publications we've produced. The sale is notable for the inclusion of a private collection of three of Bill Hammond's distinctive 'bird' paintings including the major 1996 canvas The Colour Plates. Further highlights include two major paintings by Tony Fomison, five works by Colin McCahon including a painting from the Gate series, three of Richard Killeen's famed cut-outs, an important triptych from Shane Cotton's series of 'History' paintings and many more. The photography component of the catalogue includes international photographs by William Eggleston and Bill Henson as well as major local photographs by Gavin Hipkins, Michael Parekowhai and Peter Peryer.
