David Rago Auctions proudly presents its Craftsman Auction to be held at Rago Arts and Auction Center May 22 and 23. The high-end arts and crafts sale features 1250 lots of many important pieces of art pottery, rare tiles, select mission furniture as well as a strong selection of art glass. Certain to draw attention is the selection of George Ohr including an exceptional 9" tea pot. Teco is well represented with several pieces and a rare vase embossed with tulip blossoms. Highlighting the auction are many fine pieces of Newcomb College. In addition, exquisite Rookwood pottery and pieces by Dirk Van Erp will be offered. Sure to capture attention are five lots previously from the estate of Fanny Goldstein, editor of the S.E.G. Newsletter, 1912-1917 including a rare small bowl with pairs of yellow roosters around the motto, "Early to Bed & Early to Rise Makes a Child Healthy, Wealthy and Wise". Over 125 furniture lots will be ofered. One highlight of the auction is an extremely rare and unique inlaid Harvey Ellis desk. Other furniture includes a 1901 large Gustav Stickley Server, a massive Gustav Stickley sideboard and a very rare L & JG Stickley mantle clock designed by Peter Hansen. Also included is a very early Gustav Stickley drop front desk, a Gustav Stickley child's wardrobe and a leaded music cabinet. An amazing L & LG paneled Prairie Settle and two rare Limbert cut-out stands are also offered. Several lots of extraordinary tiles are featured, including a framed 8" Los Angeles Pressed Brick tile decorated with tall trees and a castle, and a rare brick by Natco, decorated with a cow in a landscape. Other fine pieces include a Marblehead 8" tile painted with trees in silhouette against a cloudy sunset, a fine Beaver Falls 6" square tile and several tiles by Grueby and Rookwood.
