Important Paintings & Contemporary Art

A+O's first Important Paintings catalogue follows the extremely successful archive of Professor Michael Dunn, which again highlighted the importance of documented provenance for contemporary collectors. This catalogue includes two major works by Colin McCahon from the early 1970s, the artist?s Muriwai period. Both works have been held in private collections for some time and their emergence together enables the art follower of 2016 to understand McCahon?s incredible range in this period. The catalogue is also extremely strong in photography with key works by Fiona Pardington, Gavin Hipkins, Yvonne Todd, Michael Parekowhai and a rare work from 2001 by 2017 NZ at Venice artist Lisa Reihana. Another feature work is an insect based cutout by Richard Killeen dating to 1979 from a leading NZ collection in Wellington.
