Description
Oil on canvas, framed. Attributed to Georges Seurat (1859 - 1891). The composition features a serene landscape, depicting trees with rounded canopies against a hilly background. The warm hues evoke either early morning or late afternoon light. Signed Seurat on bottom right corner. Label on verso of Galerie Charpentier and numbered 7865; stamps on verso. 61 x 44 cm (24" x 17.5"), framed: 73.6 x 58 cm (29' x 23"). Seurat’s innovative approach falls within the Neo-Impressionist movement, characterized by its departure from the spontaneity of Impressionism. Rather than capturing fleeting moments, Seurat sought to structure and monumentalize modern urban life. His technique, known as pointillism, involves applying contrasting colors in tiny dots, resulting in a shimmering surface. Collections in Musée d’Orsay in Paris and The Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York celebrate Seurat’s profound impact on modern art.
