Bankoni sculptures of this type were likely produced between the 13th and 17th centuries and share a distinctive formal vocabulary: elongated, abstracted bodies, simplified volumes, and a strong emphasis on verticality. The human figure is typically reduced to essential structural elements rather than individualized features. Here, the uplifted head continues the vertical axis of the slender torso, while the arms are held close to the body in a contained, frontal composition. Horizontal relief bands around the upper and lower arms suggest ornament or body marking, introducing a measured rhythm across the surface while also articulating the figure’s anatomy.
Such works are generally interpreted within ritual or commemorative contexts, although their precise function remains uncertain.
