A handmade patchwork utility quilt, designed in a string quilt or rail fence variation. The quilt top is constructed from rectangular blocks containing multi-colored fabric strips of varying widths, arranged in a pattern of alternating horizontal and vertical orientations. The textile comprises a wide variety of prints and solids, including florals, polka dots, geometric motifs, and striped patterns in a color palette of navy, forest green, peach, brown, and cream. The materials consist of mixed fabrics, including cotton and silk/satin. The quilt is finished with a wide, fuchsia-colored textured fabric binding and a matching solid fuchsia backing, which appears to be a later addition or mid-20th-century finishing. Several strips of shiny fabric exhibit characteristic shattering, indicative of weighted silk common in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. No maker labels or signatures are present.
