Unlike many of his well-known works, Warhol’s reproduction of Howdy Doody’s image is not appropriated from the mass media: it is based on a photograph of the original Howdy Doody taken by Warhol himself. It is stamped in black on verso and bears the printer’s chop mark. New York, printed by Rupert Jasen Smith, printed the full sheet, in mint condition. sheet 38 x 38in.
