Adire Cloth, Yoruba, Nigeria, Mid 20th C. Adire textile is a dyed cloth traditionally made by Yoruba women using resist-dyeing techniques. The word 'Adire' derives from the Yoruba words 'adi,' meaning to tie, and 're,' meaning to dye. It is a material designed with wax-resist methods that produce patterns with different arrays of tints and hues. Size: 5'6'' x 6'4'' (168 x 193 cm). Provenance: Douglas Dawson Gallery, Chicago, IL.
