
A BRITISH PATTERN 1742 LONG LAND SERVICE MUSKET MARKED TO THE 47TH REGIMENT OF FOOT WITH BAYONET, mid-18th century. 46 in., .79 caliber barrel with ring decorated breech marked with Tower ordnance proof marks, asterisk over 'IW' barrel maker's mark, and engraved '47 REGT'; curved convex surface lock plate with double line border engraving, the tail with trace of engraved name and date, and crown over 'GR' below the pan and with a trace of a crown broad arrow mark; walnut stock with storekeeper's mark on the butt, inspector marks below the trigger guard 'IB' behind the side plate and faint assembly numbers in the rammer channel; brass furniture including a butt plate with long stepped tang, thumb piece engraved 'I/37', convex side plate, trigger guard with acorn finial and cast rammer pipes, sheet brass nose band, later sling swivels, later wood rammer; with a British bayonet lacking the ring at the base of the socket. Overall lg. 61 1/2 in. Condition: Barrel toned to deep brown, reconverted and may have had some portion of its length restored; lock appears to be old but may not be original to the gun; butt comb has been thinned and slightly shortened, possible restoration to forestock; brass toned to deep yellow, side plate is restored, action functions properly.
