D:27cm This is a blue and white circular porcelain plaque with opera story scene and poetic inscription from the Kangxi period of the Qing Dynasty, a fine decorative scholar’s object of early Qing blue and white wares. The plaque has a firm and white paste, with a lustrous bluish glaze; it is painted with an opera figure scene in blue and white: a lady and a scholar stand among pavilions, accompanied by bamboo, rocks and corridor bridges. The figures have vivid expressions and smooth clothing lines, and the blue and white hue shows rich layers, fully embodying the "five shades of ink" artistic feature of Kangxi blue and white. Between the scenes, there is a poetic inscription .It’s better to obey than to delay, lest Hongniang has to come again, integrating text and image to restore the opera plot—this is a typical embodiment of the "illustrated" porcelain painting style in the Kangxi period. Such inscribed figure porcelain plaques were mostly used as components of scholar’s table screens.
