HORSTER. E&F Horster history extends back to the mid 1800's with the company making swords, sabers and bayonets. It later became a major supplier of edged weapons for the Third Reich. This example carries the Horster trademark on its blade. It has aluminum fittings that were utilized after 1938. The guard and pommel have gold gilted swastikas. The grip is of blue Moroccan leather with aluminum 2 wire wrap. The scabbards as aluminum fittings with a blue Moroccan leather body. It has a permanently attached hanging chain with 6 top rings, 8 bottom rings, and aluminum clasp marked GES. GESCH. / OLC (within a diamond). CONDITION: overall good. Blade is fair with cleaned pitting, light scabbard scuffing, & good makers mark. Guard and pommel have strong gilt and minor handling marks. Grips are missing 1 wire with the twist section still present and accompanying wire. There is some deformation in the wire. Grip leather is good with some scuffing and a fair amount of finish wear. Scabbard is fair with handling marks and some tears to the leather that has been repaired, as well as, numerous handling marks and dents. (02-24971/ZAL). NON-GUN. $400-600.
