TARGET RIFLE. Cal. 32-40. S# 538. Bbl 29 7/8" custom rnd heavy target bbl measuring 15/16" at muzzle. This rifle is built on a H. Lechner German made single shot action brought to this country after WWII. The action has full coverage foliate engraving with stippled backgrounds surrounding scenes of German target shooting. Rear of receiver, forward of top tang has fittings for a tang sight. Features include dbl set triggers and ornate finger groove combination action lever and trigger guard. Schnable tipped forearm is fitted with a palm rest having a large walnut knob. Schuetzen style cheekpiece perch belly stock is made by the famed stock maker Leonard Mews of New London, Wisconsin. Stock has high comb with distinctive dished cheekpiece. Right side of comb has a deeply cut swirl leading to grooves at the rear of the cheekpiece and transitioning to a molded border beneath the cheekpiece. LOP is 13 1/8" to a Swiss style Schuetzen buttplate with a wide lower prong. Unertl Model BV-20 scope with crosshair reticle and external adjustment is mounted on bbl blocks. WEIGHT: 15lb, 11.6oz. UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: letter signed by Leonard Mews and dated April 25, 1987 stating the following: "I, Leonard Mews hereby certify with my signature that I made the .32-40 caliber Schuetzen rifle for Col. C.O. Christopherson of Appleton, from his liberated German falling block Schetzen action. The stock and forearm are American Black walnut obtained from Howard Clark, Stevens Point, Wisconsin. This rifle was built in approx 1950 (date). It is now owned by Norman L. Miller of Oshkosh. Signed Leonard G. Mews". Letter is accompanied by several pages of information from articles and photos. Gun is housed in a modern plastic case containing cleaning accessories. CONDITION: action and bbl have 98% custom blued finish. Custom stocks have good finish showing small marks.
