SEMI-AUTO PISTOL. Cal. 22 LR. S# 82503. Bbl. 4 15/16" with square cut crown. Mfg. 1950 as Super 38 being altered to accept this unmarked and unknown conversion unit that my be a one off unit that is very similar to those by Kart, Nelson or Marvel. Alterations to frame include: checkered front strap piece soldered onto original smooth front strap, trigger shoe on trigger, lightly bobbed hammer to speed lock time plus ejector thinned on inside with extension added by brazing to eject spent cartridges earlier in the action cycle. Basic conversion is all steel rather than having an aluminum slide. No makers marks or numbers on any of the conversion unit. Cocking grooves are very shallow. Standard spring plug brazed into front of slide. Overall operation is much like the popular S&W Model 41 and the top of the shaped barrel has a S&W Micrometer rear sight affixed; front is longitudinally dovetailed Patridge design on Allen screw attached solid rib. Extractor is similar to regular Model 1911-A1 rather than external. Grip safety sides are polished to in the white for minimal interference of operation with very light spring pressure. Very light, high quality match trigger pull. Thumb safety is early checkered style and slide stop is later grooved Colt style rather than Marvel style. Grips are full coverage target style of checkered walnut with palm and thumb rests for RH use. Recoil spring is flat wound of the style found on gas trap Garands. MAGS: 1 good Colt 10 rd. with pinned base and early aluminum follower. UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: photos and paperwork attributable to Air Force Sgt. Tom "Mac" McLennan who served in WW-II and competed in numerous matches, winning many. Paperwork lists some special pistols he competed with, but not this one. He was a pistol shooting coach at MIT and a Boston native. CONDITION: fair to good general appearance with conversion slide in the white appearing cleaned of light pitting. Barrel and rib assemblies are very good to include rear sight; front sight has light patina appearance to its sides. Pistol frame has areas of thinning finish and light marks. Poor grips with chips, cracks and frontal gap due to not being relieved for the added front strap checkering. Attachment screws are altered with slight slot damage. Bore is near excellent.
