GAME GUN. Cal. 12 Ga. 2-3/4". S# 2497 (1901). The 27-7/8" dovetailed barrels are engraved "James MacNaughton, 36 Hanover Street Edinburgh and Perth" on swamped game rib. Barrel flats are stamped with original London proofs along with 1996 nitro re-proofs for 2-3/4" chambers and "SLEEVED". Sleeving job is exceptionally well done and nearly invisible. Importer's name and address is at rear of bottom rib where covered by forend. Case hardened trigger plate action with toggling safety is fitted with double triggers. Action is engraved with 70% coverage well cut scroll with some Celtic knot borders. "Mac Naughton" is on both sides. Straight grip buttstock made from very nicely crotch figured and well veined European walnut measures 14-7/8" over checkered wood butt. Point pattern checkering is on grip and vacant gold oval is on toeline. Matching splinter ejector forend has Anson release. MEASUREMENTS: BBLS: Bore Diameter: L .727. R .726. Restriction: L .015 (mod). R .009 (IC). Wall thickness: L .039. R .038. STOCK: DAH: 2-7/16". DAC: 1-5/8". CAST: neutral. LOP: 14-7/8". WEIGHT: 6 lb. 14 oz. CONDITION: very fine as completely refurbished. Retaining essentially all high quality finishes on both wood and metal with only a few minor handling marks. Checkering re-cut. Borders on buttstock have not been re-cut. Bores are bright and shiny throughout. Action is tight. Ejectors are somewhat out of time. PROVENANCE: From the Private Collection of Berrien Moore III.
