Cal. 44. S# 1312. Standard configuration of early 1863 made brass frame rifle, 14 shot integral magazine, "HENRY'S PAT. OCT.16. 1860 / MANUFACT'D BY THE NEW HAVEN ARMS. CO. NEW HAVEN. CT" roll stamped on top of 24" octagonal barrel flat. Correct 900 yard rear sight without slide screw, transition from 1000 yard to 900 yard sights occurred around S# 1200. This survivor is new entry to database, these early Henry S# 1000-3000 were very popular with any soldier who could afford one, most in this range probably saw service, the addition of this gun, makes 429 survivors in the pre-martial DC cavalry range starting around S# 3000. If you want a good representative Civil War Henry at moderate estimate, bid on this one while henry market is depressed and lots to choose from. Some US veteran units were rewarded repeating rifle for bounty, long shot as lowest documented pre-martial is S# 1491, but only about half of Veteran Reserve lists are known. Stock is sound and well fit restoration including correct large mortise for cleaning rod, and not numbered. Front sight is trimmed to short blade. Mechanically very good, crisp rifled dirty bore.
