COLT 1877 LIGHTNING SHERIFF'S MODEL REVOLVER. Cal. 38. S# 22070. Fancy leather covered blue silk & velvet lined hinged casing houses presentation revolver finely inscribed on backstrap: "Patrick Parker. Esq. / with compliments of / Sam'l P. Colt. Jany. 1st 1880. Standard configuration, nickel, 3.5" barrel, 2-line Hartford address, etched panel "COLT D.A. 38", 3-line patent, mounted with checkered 1-pc rosewood grip. Blued screws, hammer & knurled cylinder pin. Revolver is pictured & described in "FINE COLTS FROM JOSEPH MURPHY COLLECTION" pages 162-163. Samuel Pomeroy Colt (1852-1921) was Col. Colt's nephew and Colt Company trustee. UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: pertinent pages from Joseph Murphy text, brass Murphy collection tag. CONDITION: revolver is extremely fine, retains about 98-99% factory nickel, having scattered small cosmetic blemishes, crisp etched panel. Screws, hammer, & trigger retain most of their bright nitre-blue. Grip retains sharp diamond point checkering, most varnish retained, .5" scuff bottom left toe. Mechanically fine, bright shiny rifled bore. Case is sound very good overall, silk top lining soiled. PROVENANCE: Dr. Joseph A. Murphy Collection, James Julia Auction, Martin Lane collection.
