Description
Canadian. 1873-1894. Despite the Brantford Pottery achieving industrial levels of production and national distribution under William E. Welding's ownership, there are only a handful of crocks known with this stamp and bird decoration. This is the 3 gal butter crock pictured in Moe Johnson's "The Potter's Reach", on pg. 368, Fig. 29-51. This design of bird is typically associated with the Flack & Van Arsdale Pottery of Cornwall and may indicate a decorator moved between firms.
