Description
Embroidered Arhat Thangka, 190cm in length and 115cm in width, produced in the Tibetan Buddhist monasteries or imperial embroidery workshops from the Qing Dynasty to the Republic of China, it is a solemn ritual implement enshrined in the Buddha hall. Made of mulberry silk threads with a black satin background, a large number of gold and silver threads are used. Adopting embroidery techniques such as gold thread coiling and seed stitching, it takes the "Eighteen Arhats" as the theme, decorated with the Eight Treasures of Buddhism and auspicious clouds around, with gorgeous colors and distinct layers, reflecting the solemnity and exquisiteness of Tibetan-style embroidery. The Tibetan Buddhist Arhat Thangka from the late Qing Dynasty to the Republic of China (1821–1949) is rare in existence, with both religious and artistic values, and is an important physical object for the study of Tibetan Buddhist culture.
