
This trapdoor rifle was made by Springfield Armory in 1880 according to the serial number and is marked Model 1884 on the breech. It is features a blade style front sight and an adjustable notch flip up rear sight fitted to a 32 1/2" barrel. Below the barrel, the stock is fitted with the cleaning rod that is also designed to be a spike bayonet and locks into place just below the front sight. The rear of the barrel is marked with the "VP" and eagle "P" with an "A" stamped to the right. The breech door is marked "US Model 1884". The right side below the hammer is engraved with the American eagle and shield with "US Springfield". The stock has a cartouche on the left side indicating it was inspected by Samuel Porter in 1891 and a circle "P" behind the trigger guard. The right side of the stock is marked "49 L" and id it fitted with a steel butt plate with compartment door to store a cleaning kit (empty). LOP: 13 1/4". CALIBER/GA: 45-70 Government. S/N: 138243.
Condition
Good - The mechanics are good and has shiny bore with visible rifling. Stock shows some ding from use. Finish is faded in some areas and some light oxidation on the butt plate.
