
This trapdoor rifle was made in 1883 by Springfield Armory and chambered in .45-70 Government. It features a brass blade front sight, likely replacing the original, and an adjustable rear sight fitted on a cadet length 29 1/2" barrel. Cleaning rod is in place below the barrel. The front barrel band is fitted with a rifle sling and stacking swivel and the rear sling mount is mounted to the front of the trigger guard. The top of the barrel near the receiver is marked with "VP" and the Eagle "P" merging with an "R" to the right of the other letters. The breech door is engraved "US Model 1873" and the right side below the hammer features the American eagle and shield engraving next to "US Springfield". the rear of the stock is fitted with a steel butt plate. Also included with this rifle is a spike bayonet with scabbard. The spike is 18" long with a "US" marking at the base and measures 21" overall. LOP: 13 1/2". CALIBER/GA: 45-70 Government. Condition
Good - The mechanics are good and the bore is shiny with visible rifling. Metal parts show some light oxidation and discoloring in the metal. Stock Show dings and scratches from use and a repaired chunk on the right of the rear stock.
