It was on these course's that Rich started to experiment with bold colours and enamelling, a medium that has become his trademark. He has won numerous accolades including the Jacques Cartier award, and his work features in the collection of the Worshipful Company of Goldsmiths, The Victoria & Albert Museum and also in the British Museum. The present lot is a remarkable example of Rich's style of enamelling which is a hybrid of cloisonné, basse taille, and champlevé, enamelling on an engraved, carved, or etched surface. At the time of production the present lot was one of the largest vessels Rich had produced, and is remarkable in both its scale and its design.
