
A silver-gilt lidded tankard maker's mark AR in a rectangular punch, probably attributed to Alexander Rood, (see Mitchell, page 233 / 234), London 1683 Cylindrical form, later chased body in high relief with cherubs and donkey, a satyrs within a wooded landscape with fruiting vines above, hinged cover with later chased acanthus cartouche centred with an engraved crest a tree proper, scroll thumb-piece, the skirted foot chased with leaves, fruit and wheat heads, height 23cm, weight 36oz.
