Title: Pair of Early 20th Century Austrian Ceramic Monk Figures
Description: Pair of Early 20th Century Austrian Ceramic Monk Figures – Mould Nos. 1260 & 1261
A good pair of early 20th century Continental ceramic monk figures, likely Austrian, each robed in brown with gilded details and holding a tankard in one hand.
Moulded with charming expression and well-observed folds to the robes, they are numbered to the reverse 1260 and 1261, indicating production models from a Central European maker, c.1900–1920.
The figures are finely executed in glazed earthenware, with gilt decoration to the keys, belts, and steins.
The overall modelling is crisp and characterful without being overtly comic.
Heights: approx. 16 cm and 17
Condition: One with a minor nibble to the foot (1260) and a small chip near the base; otherwise both in good decorative order with some wear to the gilding
Condition: Used
