A commemorative bronze medal issued in 1897 to mark the 100th birthday of Kaiser Wilhelm I (Wilhelm der Große), German Emperor and King of Prussia.
The obverse shows a right-facing bust of the Emperor in uniform, with the legend: “WILHELM DER GROSSE / DEUTSCHER KAISER / KOENIG VON PREUSSEN."
The reverse bears the inscription: “ZUM ANDENKEN AN DEN HUNDERTSTEN GEBURTSTAG DES GROSSEN KAISERS WILHELM I / 1797–22 MÄRZ 1897”, surrounded by oak and laurel branches with a depiction of the imperial crown and a small building below.
Fitted with an original suspension ring.
