A scarce and visually engaging complete set of The Hundred Best Pictures, issued in 17 parts by Charles Letts & Co., London.
Each part contains fine photogravure reproductions of famous paintings, accompanied by biographical and critical commentary on the featured artists.
The series presents one hundred celebrated works by Old Masters and notable 19th-century painters, including da Vinci, Jan van Eyck, Burne-Jones, Ingres, and G. F. Watts, among others.
Each booklet is bound with original coloured cord ties and retains its original printed brown card covers.
The photogravures are well-printed and handsomely laid out, intended to be suitable for framing or study.
A “Special Portfolio” was offered at the time to house the set, and is not present here.
