Description: Pair of Victorian Watercolours – Vale Crucis Abbey, Llangollen by Henry Pope (British, 1843–1908)
A finely painted pair of original late 19th century watercolours by the listed British artist Henry Pope, depicting views of Vale Crucis Abbey near Llangollen in Denbighshire, North Wales.
Each scene captures the romantic ruins of the medieval abbey nestled in the Welsh hills, one with figures and geese near a stream, the other viewed through birch trees with grazing sheep.
Henry Pope was an accomplished watercolourist active in the second half of the 19th century, known for his sensitive treatment of landscape and architectural subjects.
