A decorative pair of vintage Japanese porcelain vases in the Kutani style, produced for export and bearing the EKEN mark to the base.
Each vase is of baluster form with flared neck and is richly decorated with traditional Chinese-inspired scenes of karakō (boys at play), shishi lion dogs and lotus flowers within shaped cartouches, surrounded by dense scrolling floral and geometric borders in iron-red, yellow, cobalt blue and gilt.
The bright white porcelain body and crisp enamel colours are typical of post-war Kutani revival ware, produced to a high decorative standard for the Western market.
The pair display particularly well, with strong symmetrical form and bold, colourful decoration.
Both vases are in very good vintage condition with no chips, cracks or restoration.
