Title: Highly Decorative French Enamelled Vase, Attributed to Samson of Paris, c.1880
Description: Highly Decorative French Enamelled Vase, Attributed to Samson of Paris, c.1880
A striking late 19th-century French porcelain vase, attributed to the Parisian firm Samson, Edmé et Cie.
Richly decorated in raised polychrome enamel, the piece exemplifies the Rococo Revival taste, drawing inspiration from earlier Sèvres and Minton wares.
Of baluster form with a flared, ruffled rim and an unusual three-handle configuration, the vase is profusely adorned with scrolling foliate and floral motifs in soft green, rose pink, lemon yellow, cobalt blue, and burgundy enamel.
Three reserved cartouches, spaced evenly around the body, each enclose a hand-painted floral bouquet, finely executed in vibrant colours.
The surface is heavily encrusted with applied decoration, creating a richly textured and highly ornamental effect.
The base is unmarked, as is often the case with Samson porcelain of this nature, which was frequently produced as high-quality decorative pastiches of earlier European styles.
The unglazed footring and white body are consistent with late 19th-century French hard-paste porcelain.
Dimensions: Height: 31 cm Width (across handles): 20 cm Depth: 20 cm
Condition: In good decorative condition overall.
Minor rubbing and small areas of wear to the enamel, consistent with age.
No chips, cracks, or visible restoration.
Condition: Used
