Title: Chinese Gilt Bronze Cachepot with Floral Relief c.1880–1910
Description: Chinese Gilt Bronze Cachepot with Floral Relief c.1880–1910
A decorative late Qing period Chinese cachepot, cast in bronze with a richly detailed frieze of roses and foliage in high relief.
Originally produced for the export market, likely from a Cantonese or northern foundry, circa 1880–1910.
The cast decoration retains traces of original gilding, now worn to a soft, mellow tone.
The body is of generous proportions and good weight, with a plain lower section and rolled rim.
The interior is unlined and shows old signs of use.
The base bears an impressed Chinese character mark, likely a workshop or artisan seal, now partially worn but legible in form.
This piece would have originally functioned as an indoor plant pot holder — or cachepot — in a wealthy European or colonial household, reflecting a blend of Chinese craftsmanship and Western decorative tastes.
Condition: Fair antique condition.
Areas of surface wear, minor dents, tarnishing, rubbing to gilding, and patches of verdigris and corrosion as shown.
Unpolished, structurally sound, and retaining strong decorative character.
Dimensions: 23 cm diameter x 18 cm height
Condition: Used
