Title: Mid-20th Century Spanish Talavera Pottery Vase and Jug
Description: Mid-20th Century Spanish Talavera Pottery Vase and Jug
A decorative pair of Spanish Talavera pottery, hand-painted and signed by the Mave workshop, dating from the mid to late 20th century, circa 1960s–1970s.
The pair comprises a tall vase and a handled jug, each painted in the traditional Talavera palette of cobalt blue, green, yellow, and ochre.
The vase, of tapered cylindrical form with a flared neck, is decorated with floral and acanthus motifs to the collar and a lively scene of a bird among trees and foliage against a clouded ground.
The jug, of cylindrical form with moulded handle and shaped spout, is painted with a prancing deer in a pastoral setting, framed by flowering plants and rolling hills.
Both pieces are signed to the base “Talavera Mave”, the vase also bearing the initials “S.R.”, indicating production by the noted Mave workshop of Talavera de la Reina, Spain.
Vase measures 16 x 16 x 31 (height) cm
Jug measures 17 x 11.5 x 25 (height) cm
Both in good decorative condition.
The vase has a small chip to the glaze on the base (as pictured).
No cracks or repairs.
