Title: Pair of Monumental British Art Deco Plaster Relief Panels in Gilt Frames, c.1930
Description: Pair of Monumental British Art Deco Plaster Relief Panels in Gilt Frames, c.1930
A very handsome and decorative pair of large-scale plaster panels, British, dating to around 1930.
Originally made for a theatre interior, each panel is modelled in gesso plaster and depicts a classical female figure in high relief, framed within an arched surround in the neoclassical taste.
The panels have been later refurbished and repainted in a stylised Wedgwood blue and white finish, and are now beautifully mounted in good quality later giltwood frames with moulded scroll and foliate ornament.
The overall presentation is bold, elegant and immediately decorative.
Origin: British
Date: c.1930
Materials: Gesso plaster, paint, giltwood
Dimensions (each): 214 cm x 153 cm (7 ft x 5 ft)
Condition: In good decorative condition.
The plaster surfaces have been repainted and show a few small cracks, marks and imperfections as expected with age.
The gilt frames are later and have been well refinished — some light rubbing and occasional losses to the gesso but present well.
Structurally solid and ready to hang.
Please note: the panels are very heavy.
Condition: Used
