About the Artist: Alexei Hanzen was the grandson of celebrated Russian painter Ivan Aivazovsky and trained across Europe in Berlin, Dresden, and Paris.
Renowned for his maritime and landscape works, Hanzen was appointed official artist to the Russian Naval Ministry.
His paintings are represented in museum and royal collections across Europe.
After the Russian Revolution, Hanzen settled in Dubrovnik (then Yugoslavia), where he continued to paint until his death in 1937.
