A FAMILLE ROSE MEISSEN STYLE 'BOTANICAL' CHARGER Qianlong Brightly enamelled with scattered flower sprays and insects, within puce enamelled foliate and scroll design bands. 36.8cm (14 1/2in) diam. Footnotes: Please note this Lot is to be sold at No Reserve. 本拍品不設底價 清乾隆 粉彩仿梅森花卉紋盤 Provenance: Acquired from Robert McPherson Antiques, London, August 2007 (collector's notes). Published and Illustrated: M. White, Beasts at the Whites' House: A selection of ceramics from the Whites' House collection, vol.1, n.p, 2020, p. 241. Manufactured in China but made for a European market, such ceramics sought inspiration for design from English porcelain manufacturers such as Lowestoft or German ones such as the Meissen style seen on the present lot. Porcelain manufacture was much more advanced in China in the 18th century than anywhere else in the world, so larger quantities of works could be produced at a much higher quality, as exemplified by this charger. Compare to a plate with similar design, circa 1770-80, on display in the Victoria & Albert Museum, London, accession number C.337-1931. See a service of this design, which was sold at Christie's New York, 14th October 2020, lot 15.
