
A late 18th century mahogany striking table clock with alarm Robert Jackson, Bishop Burton The case surmounted by a brass carrying handle over an bell top with moulded surround, the front fitted with applied sound frets and a simple locking escutcheon to the left-hand side. The sides with later fish-scale sound frets, the whole terminating in a moulded base and resting on four block feet. The 7 inch silvered dial with Roman and Arabic numerals, signed to the centre Robt Jackson, Bishop Burton, with a calendar aperture to the lower section, an alarm setting disc to the centre, engraved decoration throughout, and a strike/silent aperture. The double fusee movement with verge escapement, striking the hours on a bell mounted above, the alarm work to the left-hand side. Wound from the back, the backplate, engraved with foliate scrollwork centred by an eagle. Currently ticking and striking. 50cms (20ins) high.
