
An interesting engraved opaque twist portrait wine glass, circa 1765 The engraving perhaps later, the cup-shaped bowl decorated with a portrait roundel of a lady looking to dexter and holding her dog in her lap, encircled by tied floral branches, the reverse with a landscape depicting a sundial on a pedestal flanked by trees, on a stem with an eleven-ply opaque white spiral band outside four heavy spiral threads, over a conical foot, 13.5cm high Footnotes: Provenance With Maureen Thompson, June 1987 Whilst the identity of the sitter on this glass is unknown, several glasses engraved with related portraits thought to depict the Welsh actress Sarah Siddons are recorded.
