
A fine Lobmeyer gilded and enamelled decanter and stopper, and a goblet, circa 1893 From the series Hochgold mit Watteaubildern (Raised gold with Watteau pictures) designed by Moritz Knab, the decanter of flattened pear shape with tall facet-cut neck and quatrefoil foot, finely painted in colours with a crowned coat of arms to the front, pastoral scenes of courting couples in landscapes with dogs and sheep after Watteau to the reverse and sides, with a high domed and faceted stopper, surrounded by profuse gilded and enamelled diaper and scrollwork decoration, the neck, shoulder and foot also with elaborate gilt borders, 26cm high, the goblet of tall and slightly flattened U-shape on a scalloped foot, similarly decorated with a coat of arms and panels of single female figures, 12cm high, both with Lobmeyr mark JLLW in gold (3) Footnotes: Moritz Knab was a graduate of the Viennese Industrial School and was employed by Lobmeyr as a designer from 1882-86. While this series was introduced in 1793, the shape of the decanter recorded at Lobmeyr in 1889 and the painted decoration follows earlier engravings of the same series designed by Knab.
