
A large Venetian calcedionio or chalcedony glass vase and cover attributed to Lorenzo Radi, circa 1860 Attractively marbled in tones of green, brown and grey-blue, the slender tapering form set on a large flattened knop and a high spreading foot neatly folded at the footrim, the low domed cover with a pointed finial surrounded by a vermicular collar at the base, 43cm high (2) Footnotes: Lorenzo Radi (1803-1874) was a manufacturer of mosaic glass pastes who in 1856, after years of study and testing, successfully rediscovered the secrets to the production of calcedonio glass imitating natural chalcedony, which had first been invented in the 15th century.
