
A rare French moulded red 'agate' or 'Lithyalin' sugar bowl and a blue tinted Styrian beaker, circa 1840-60 The bowl St Louis or Baccarat, marbled in shades of opaque 'sealing wax' red, the tapering sides press-moulded with neo-gothic pillars and arches below an arcaded rim, the spreading pedestal foot star-cut underneath, 11.6cm high, the beaker in translucent cobalt-blue glass, of thistle shape press-moulded with a wide band of stylised flowerheads between beaded borders, gadroons to the lower part, on a scalloped foot, 11cm high (2) Footnotes: The attribution of identical sugar bowls are discussed by Siegmar Geiselberger, 'Opak-rote Zuckerdose mit neu-gotischem Muster, St Louis oder Baccarat, 1840', Pressglas-Korrespondenz 1 (2016), 1-18.
