Four Bow bowls, circa 1750-56 Painted in vibrant blue and comprising a small example painted with banana trees growing by a fence 11.5cm diam, the three larger bowls with Chinese riverscapes, one with an early 'sketchy' island composition, 13.6cm diam, a dash or single line painter's mark, another with highly abstracted plants and trees on an island, two ships sailing under scroll clouds and birds, 14.6cm diam, painter's mark 'G', and another bowl with a multi storey pavilion among bizarre rockwork, a sampan to the reverse, 14cm diam (4) Footnotes: Provenance Anton Gabszewicz Collection Three of the bowls appear to have what might be classed as a 'lard-like' thick pooling blue glaze, which stops short of the footrims. The bowl marked with a cursive 'g', has a thinner, glossier glaze. The banana tree pattern can be seen on a coffee cup in lot 97 in this sale.
