A pair of Liverpool (James Pennington) dishes or platters, circa 1765 Of shaped rectangular form, painted in blue in distinctive style with willow, rockwork and peony, below a diaper border, four flower sprays sprouting from the rim, 27cm wide (2) Footnotes: Provenance Lyn and Maurice Hillis Collection Old paper labels to the reverse suggest these dishes are Chaffers. However, Bernard Watney suggests that they are Brownlow Hill, either William Reid or James Pennington. See Watney, Liverpool Porcelain (1997), fig.278 for a very similar example and Maurice Hillis, Liverpool Porcelain (2011), p.127, fig.4.98 for a dish of the same shape, firmly attributed to James Pennington.
