A Liverpool (John Pennington) sauceboat or small creamboat and a saucer dish, circa 1765-70 Painted in blue with a Chinese figure and a young attendant with a parasol, a simple loop border below the shaped rim of the sauceboat, the saucer dish with a diaper border, sauceboat 12.8cm long, saucer dish 15cm diam, the saucer dish with painter's numeral '2' inside footrim (2) Footnotes: Provenance Barbara Leake Collection, Bonhams, 12 March 2008, lot 289 (creamboat) and lot 290 (saucer dish) Lyn and Maurice Hillis Collection The sauceboat was exhibited in the 18th Century English Porcelain loan exhibition, Dreweatt Neate 1996, catalogue no.111. A very rare saucer dish with a related chinoiserie pattern and similar border is marked with a numeral '1' and is illustrated by Maurice Hillis, Liverpool Porcelain (2011), p.129, fig.4.105.
