A highly unusual Worcester mug, circa 1760-62 Of bell shape, with a grooved loop handle, painted with a large fruiting strawberry plant, flanked by colourful flower sprays and smaller scattered sprigs, 12.2cm high Footnotes: Provenance Zorensky Collection, Bonhams, 23 February 2005, lot 38 Gerald Moore Collection Strawberries appear on many pieces of the Duke of Gloucester service made at Worcester a decade after this mug. The present lot appears to be a rare example of fruit painting in this earlier period. The flower painting is also in an uncharacteristic palette.
