
A pair of Derby flower pots and seven various Derby figures, circa 1755-85 The pots of flared bucket shape moulded with horizontal bands picked out in gold, containing delicately modelled bouquets of garden flowers and leaves naturalistically decorated in bright colours, 13.5cm high, the figures comprising Shakespeare, modelled leaning on a pile on books upon a plinth from which unfurls a scroll inscribed with lines from The Tempest, 31cm high, a pair of candlestick figures of gardeners raised on scrolled bases, 27cm high, a pair of candlestick figures of a shepherd and shepherdess, modelled as children seated before elaborate bocage, 16cm and 17cm high, a figure of Winter modelled as an old woman warming her hands over a brazier, 12cm high, and a model of a sheep recumbent before bocage, 9.5cm high, patch marks to all but the sheep (9) Footnotes: Provenance With A J Filkins (Shakespeare, Winter and flower pots) A similar flower pot is illustrated by H G Bradley, Ceramics of Derbyshire (1978), no.123.
