
A good pair of Derby candlesticks, circa 1800 Of fluted capstan shape with spreading feet and biting serpent handles, gilded with formal bands of stylised florets on bright yellow grounds, 9.3cm high, patch marks and crown, crossed batons and D marks in puce, together with a pair of candlesticks in Chelsea-Derby style, modelled as Corinthian columns with details picked out in brown and gold, 20cm high, pseudo Frankenthal crowned CT marks in blue (4) Footnotes: Provenance Shaw Collection Unlike chambersticks, low candlesticks of this form were presumably intended for use on the card table, with the wide bases providing stability.
