He became a manufacturer and supplier of colours, glazes, and chemicals for the pottery, tile, and glass industries through his company Wengers, which was incorporated as a limited company in 1895. John Campbell was the nephew of Colin Minton Campbell and became a trustee of the Minton factory in 1900 and was granted the Royal Warrant in 1901.
