
A late 18th century Green lacquered striking long case Jere Quelch, London The case surmounted by a flat moulded section over a break-arch hood with pierced sound frets to each side, the front door with gilt decoration and simple uprights flanked by columns, above a concave throat moulding with further lacquer decoration. The long break-arch trunk door decorated with chinoiserie-painted scenes and fitted with a simple brass escutcheon to the left-hand side, all above a moulded base and raised on a lacquered plinth. The 12 inch brass dial with Roman and Arabic chapter ring divided by fleur-de-lys half-hour markers, the finely matted centre with subsidiary seconds dial and decorated date aperture, all framed by cast brass spandrels. Signed in the break arch on a separate silvered name cartouche with engraved border Jere Quelch, London. The two-train movement with anchor escapement, striking the hours on a bell mounted above via a rack and snail system.
