Description
The collector for whom we are reselling this marvelous painting collected it because it spoke to him of how his (then) young daughter made his life more beautiful. Miriam Schapiro and Judy Chicago founded the first Feminist Art Program, at Fresno State in California. They reclaimed materials, subject matter, and techniques used by women artists throughout history, but derided as +-IBw-craft+-IB0 or +-IBw-women+-IBk-s work+-IB0; inconsequential in upper levels of the art world. Schapiro created a technique she called +-IBw-femmage,+-IB0 utilizing fabrics, ribbon, and collaged elements. The collector saw the wonder of childhood in the floral patterns on the fabrics; the ribbons in the little girl+-IBk-s hair echoed those worn by his own daughter.Father and Daughter is a unique mixed-media femmage on canvas (edition of 1), measuring 72 +-ANc 60 inches unframed. Created in 1997, the work is signed by the artist, in very good condition, and is a significant example of her mature work.
