Footnotes: Provenance From the Collection of the late Graham Slater. The flute depicted in this work was made by Thomas Cahusac, a distinguished London instrument maker who founded his workshop in 1755. Cahusac quickly established a reputation for producing wind instruments of exceptional quality, prized by both professional musicians and accomplished amateurs. His flutes in particular were admired for their refined craftsmanship and clear, resonant tone. Following Thomas Cahusac's death, the business was continued by his sons, who upheld the firm's standards and extended its influence well into the early 19th century, until 1816.
