A Regency mahogany side table attributed to Gillows Circa 1815 The rounded rectangular top with a reeded edge, above one long mahogany lined frieze drawer, flanked by panelled angles, on ring turned baluster and reeded tapering legs terminating in spade feet with brass cappings and castors, 86.5cm wide x 50.5cm deep x 73.5cm high, (34in wide x 19 1/2in deep x 28 1/2in high) Footnotes: Two designs for 'chamber tables' appear in the Gillows Estimate Sketch Books, for the years 1810 and 1826, reference numbers 344 and 3497 respectively, Westminster City Archives. An example of a related chamber table to the offered lot, which was supplied by Gillows to Parlington Hall in 1811, is illustrated in C. Gilbert, Furniture at Temple Newsam and Lotherton Hall, Vol. II, London and Bradford, 1978, p.381, no.502. It is important to note that the present model is lacking the small hinged stationery compartment located to the rear edge of the top which typically identifies such pieces as 'chamber tables'. However, it seems highly likely that some examples of similar form and proportions, albeit without these compartments, were doubtless also produced by Gillows.
