A mid Victorian satinwood, rosewood crossbanded and fruitwood marquetry display cabinet Circa 1875, possibly by Wright and Mansfield, in the George III Neoclassical style The ogee moulded cornice above an inlaid ribbon-tied frieze and a central glazed panelled door, enclosing three adjustable shelves, above a bow fronted base with central panelled door inlaid with scrolling acanthus leaves, paterae and bell flowers centred by a penwork oval panel depicting a shepherdess, flanked by a further pair of glazed panelled doors, on lotus leaf moulded and turned legs, 153cm wide x 49cm deep x 233cm high, (60in wide x 19in deep x 91.5in high) Footnotes: The very fine quality in the execution and construction of the offered lot, combined with its elegant re-interpretation of the George III Neoclassical style, makes it possible that this excellent display cabinet was a product of the Wright and Mansfield firm. Added to this, it was evidently made during the 1870s at a time when this renowned 19th century cabinet making partnership, which flourished between 1861 and 1884, was at the height of its success. If the present piece was produced by this company at that time, then it was constructed following their triumph at the 1867 Paris Exhibition, where they won a gold medal for art furniture. Also, some of their most celebrated output is furniture that has been executed in exactly this kind of revived and reinvigorated Georgian Neoclassicism.
